Christmas Season!
Written on November 29, 2007
It’s been a bit since I posted, thought I would check in! We had a good Thanksgiving last week - my parents, Nathan’s parents, and Uncle Jimmy ate together at the Millers’ house. It was tasty and we ate too much, as always. Since then I’ve been in full Christmas-mode…as if that would surprise anyone who knows me. We put up the tree, a 7 ft. “pencil” tree that I got on sale for $35 at Trees n Trends; bought new string lights with a wedding gift card to Lowe’s; and I pulled out all my ornaments and decorations.
I had to buy a tree skirt because the metal stand was just too ugly - the skirt is too BIG for the tree, but we figure it will get covered up with presents anyway. Here are some pictures from that evening:
Stringing lights on the tree…

Here it is all decorated and lit the first night we had it up. We had some eggnog and watched Christmas Vacation. haha.

This is a shot of my “mantle” aka the shelf over the television…the gold tealight holders are from Target and the glittery sprigs I got from Michaels for about 33 cents a pop. (Thanks Mom) Then my village is made up of those cardboard houses you can buy at the craft store, where they have all that paintable paper mache stuff. Lots of gold paint, glitter, and mini tinsel…I love Christmas villages and cannot afford the awesome antique paper ones, so this is what I’ve got!

And here is the tree with the tree skirt and it’s first present!! It’s for Nathan.

So anyway, obviously we’re (mostly I am) ready for the season…we’ve got a little shopping to do (a lot of shopping to do) but we’ve got a plan of attack and should be ready for Christmas. Michelle (Nathan’s sister) will be having her little boy, Mac, very very soon - she’s due on December 12th, they will induce on the 14th, but who knows…! We are so excited! We are also so pumped because we found out yesterday that my sister Meghan is having another BOY! I know they pictured having boys, and Bridger will be such a good big brother. She’s due April 21st.
Well, it was mostly an update of pictures, but an update nonetheless…I’m sure we’ll be back with more, what with the upcoming birth of our nephew and the holiday season.

I am also a fan of small nativity scenes although I don’t own one. That’s one of my goals this holiday season–to buy one!
I could own 10 and be happy! I don’t know if you shop online much, but check out Ten Thousand Villages… http://www.tenthousandvillages.com They have some really neat ones. There is a store in Huntsville on Regal Drive by Parkway Place Mall too.
Shannon,
I am totally jealous! I love decorating but since I am moving on wednesday, my house isnt decorated with the first thing! And my new house needs so much work that I am not putting lights up this year. No Way!!!! Who wants to celebrate an ugly house?!?! It will be pretty by next christmas so I will decorate outside then. This year it will be a tree inside and that is it!
Aw, I understand a little bit — my sister is doing very minimal Christmas decorating too, since their house is on the market!! At least you will have a tree, that is the important part!
I’m so jealous! You’re so creative and thrifty. One of these days, I’m going to have the time and money to do such fun stuff. I’ll have to enlist your help.
Thanks for the tip. I’ll check those places out. Oh, and I third the jealousy comments. Your decorations are adorable!
Aw - thank you!! I don’t know if thrifty is so much correct as “cheap,” but what can I say. haha.
Cheap would be ugly. I’ve seen your decor in person, and it’s definitely not ugly!!! It’s okay to give yourself a pat on the back sometimes. So go ahead, you deserve it ;).
Haha! Thank you Crystal.
